As with many of us, sequestration has
had a severe impact on all Defender Offices and the Defender
Services budget. This includes an approximate 50% or more
reduction in training budgets for the 2013 fiscal year, which
ends on September 30th. Defender Services have cancelled the
following programs as a result: Sentencing Advocacy Workshop;
Law and Technology Series: Electronic Courtroom Presentation
Workshop; Law and Technology Series: Techniques in Electronic
Case Management Workshop; Paralegal and Investigator Skills
Workshop; Seminar for Federal Defender Paralegals and Investigators;
and the National Seminar for Federal Defenders.

San Diego, CA - Sept 24- 26, 2015

In fact, the first principle of the national joint electronic discovery protocol developed by representatives of the Department of Justice, Federal Public Defenders, CJA panel attorneys and the Office of Defender Services reflects this trend in the law: “[l]awyers have a responsibility to have an adequate understanding of electronic discovery.”
